When the world came to a standstill during the COVID 19 lockdown, many found themselves searching for purpose or passion. For Nigerian born artist and musician Fapohunda Busayo Abraham, also known by his online persona Im_Yamaato, it was the moment everything changed.
With the stillness of the world offering rare time and space, Busayo turned to digital art, a field he had long been curious about but never fully explored. What started as casual sketching on a tablet quickly transformed into a deeper creative awakening.
“That period sparked a shift in how I saw art,” he reflects. “It wasn’t just a hobby anymore, it became a tool for expression, connection, and even a possible career.”
For Busayo, digital art became more than visual play. It gave him a voice when words felt hard to come by. It became his way of telling stories, capturing emotions, and creating impactful moments that resonated with others online. This newfound love for creativity didn’t stop with digital brushes and canvases, it paved the way for a musical journey that would soon go viral.
In 2022, Busayo took a leap and began sharing his music with the world. It was a bold move, one filled with vulnerability and uncertainty. Yet, just like his digital art, music gave him another medium to tell stories, this time through sound. His voice, raw and unfiltered, quickly caught the attention of audiences on TikTok, where one of his tracks skyrocketed to over 4 million views.
“That was a turning point for me,” Busayo says. “It showed me that my work could connect deeply with people. It gave me confidence in my voice.” The viral moment was not just a fluke, it was the result of countless hours spent writing, producing, and believing in the unseen potential of his talent.
The journey to that success, however, wasn’t without struggle. Self doubt and inconsistency nearly held him back. There were days where progress felt slow and invisible, but he kept showing up.
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that consistency beats perfection,” he shares. “Waiting to feel ready only delays growth. You become ready by doing.”
Now firmly rooted in the creative industry, Busayo is working on new music that reflects his journey of self discovery and personal growth. His goal is clear: to inspire others through authentic storytelling, whether through music or art. Each new project is an extension of his heart, meant to uplift, inspire, and create meaningful connections.
He sees his work as more than entertainment. For him, it’s a legacy in the making. A legacy of creativity, courage, and authenticity.
“I want to be remembered as someone who helped others embrace their unique voice and create without fear,” Busayo says.
Despite his growing following, including thousands of fans on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X, Busayo remains grounded. His humility stems from knowing where he started, from those quiet lockdown days sketching alone, to hearing his music echo across millions of phones.
Busayo’s vision is simple yet powerful: to inspire people through his lifestyle, creative journey, and personal growth. He hopes that his story can encourage others to start their journey, even if they feel unsure or unprepared.
“If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be: don’t wait for everything to be perfect. Start where you are, with what you have,” he says with a smile. “You grow by doing, by trying, and by showing up, even when it’s scary.”
Today, Busayo balances his art and music career, working on new content and engaging with his community. His audience continues to grow across social platforms:
From a curious artist during lockdown to a viral sensation, Busayo’s story is one of courage, growth, and creative discovery. And this is just the beginning.
