Norse Atlantic Airways has officially launched its newest transatlantic route, connecting Athens, Greece, to Los Angeles, California. This highly anticipated service strengthens the carrier’s growing presence in Europe and North America, offering travelers an affordable and direct way to fly between the Mediterranean and the U.S. West Coast.
This strategic route, announced earlier this year, is now in full operation. It marks an important step for Norse Atlantic Airways as it expands beyond its core Scandinavian and transatlantic markets.
This new nonstop flight is the first-ever direct budget airline route between Athens International Airport (ATH) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Norse Atlantic, known for its low-cost, long-haul model, is aiming to make transatlantic travel more accessible to tourists, students, and business travelers.
Flights are currently scheduled to run three times per week during the summer peak season. According to the company’s official press release, the route will operate using the airline’s modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, known for comfort, efficiency, and reduced carbon emissions.
Passengers will be able to choose between two cabin options: Economy and Norse Premium. Economy class offers low-cost fares with the option to add services like meals, extra baggage, and seat selection. Norse Premium includes more spacious seating, complimentary meals, and priority services.
“Norse Atlantic Airways is excited to connect two iconic cities—Athens and Los Angeles—offering both Greeks and Americans a new way to experience each other’s cultures,” said CEO Bjørn Tore Larsen. “We believe in giving everyone the chance to travel long distances affordably without sacrificing comfort.”
Travelers booking early may find fares as low as $249 one-way, depending on the season and fare class. Additional information on pricing and services is available on Norse Atlantic’s booking page.
The new route is expected to positively impact tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the U.S. and Greece. Athens, home to the ancient Acropolis, continues to be a top European destination. Meanwhile, Los Angeles offers iconic attractions such as Hollywood, Santa Monica, and its diverse culinary and cultural scene.
According to Greek tourism officials, the launch comes at a time when U.S. travel demand to Greece has surged. Last year, more than 1 million Americans visited the country, and numbers are expected to rise in 2025.
Eleni Kountoura, a Greek Member of the European Parliament and former Minister of Tourism, praised the development. “This new direct connection with California supports our long-term goal of expanding Greece’s reach as a year-round destination for American tourists,” she said in a statement shared with Greek Travel Pages.
The Athens-Los Angeles route not only provides a new travel option but also reflects broader trends in aviation. Since the pandemic, travelers have been seeking direct flights to minimize connections and travel time. Norse Atlantic’s model answers this demand by offering nonstop long-haul routes at competitive prices.
Moreover, this launch reflects Norse’s ambitious growth strategy. After previously focusing on cities like New York, London, and Paris, the airline is now exploring lesser-served yet high-demand corridors.
This route also positions Norse as a competitor to traditional flag carriers and major alliances, particularly in markets underserved by low-cost transatlantic options.
According to the airline, the current schedule for ATH to LAX flights is:
Return flights depart Los Angeles at 6:15 PM and arrive in Athens at 1:00 PM the next day. These schedules aim to optimize convenience for both leisure and business travelers.
Tickets can be booked via the Norse Atlantic Airways official website or through partner travel agencies. Seasonal promotions and group discounts are also available.
The launch of the Athens–Los Angeles route is part of Norse Atlantic’s plan to double its transatlantic network by the end of 2025. Industry analysts have taken note of the airline’s rapid expansion, especially as major carriers continue to scale back on long-haul leisure routes.
Norse is also considering additional Greek cities and U.S. destinations, with speculation around possible future routes to San Francisco, Miami, and Chicago. If successful, these expansions could reshape budget long-haul travel across the Atlantic.
Aviation expert Andreas Petropoulos commented in Simple Flying, “Norse is tapping into a market that was underserved for too long. Their Athens to Los Angeles route may become one of their flagship connections if demand continues to rise.”
With this latest route, Norse Atlantic Airways strengthens its position as a disruptor in the transatlantic flight market. For Greek and American travelers alike, the airline offers a new, cost-effective way to explore two vibrant cities separated by more than 6,800 miles.
As the first flight took off to cheers and celebration at Athens International Airport, it symbolized more than just a new connection—it marked a new chapter in global travel.
