Same-day fresh grocery delivery has taken a giant leap forward as Amazon now offers the service in more than 1,000 U.S. cities and towns. By the end of 2025, the company plans to expand it to over 2,300 locations, bringing perishables and everyday items to customers’ doors within hours.
Amazon’s latest move integrates thousands of perishable grocery items—such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods, and frozen foods—into its existing Same-Day Delivery network. Shoppers can now place one order containing both groceries and everyday goods, receiving everything together in a single, quick delivery.
Cities currently served include major markets like Phoenix, Orlando, Kansas City, Raleigh, Milwaukee, Tampa, Columbus, and San Francisco. The rollout reflects Amazon’s commitment to making grocery shopping as fast and seamless as buying other household items online.
The company’s goal is to reach over 2,300 locations by the end of 2025, with more coverage in 2026. A $4 billion investment in logistics will also help expand services into smaller towns and rural communities.
The process is simple. Customers browse Amazon’s grocery selection online, add items to their cart alongside other products, and select a same-day delivery slot. Orders are packed in temperature-controlled facilities and arrive in recyclable, insulated bags to keep food fresh.
For Prime members, same-day delivery is free on grocery orders over $25. Orders below that amount incur a $2.99 fee. Non-Prime shoppers can also use the service for a flat $12.99 fee, regardless of order size.
This pricing structure is designed to encourage larger basket sizes while keeping the threshold low enough for customers to use the service for smaller purchases when needed.
This expansion changes how people think about grocery shopping. Instead of making a separate trip to the supermarket or using a dedicated grocery delivery app, shoppers can combine all their needs—groceries, electronics, books, and more—into one Amazon order.
Amazon says early adoption shows strong customer interest.
